History:
Rajshahi College is one of the best institutions of higher learning in Bangladesh. Rajshahi College was founded in 1837 in the city of Rajshahi with the economic assistance of Raja Roy Bahadur Harlal Roy of Dublahati. The yearly income from the land distributed for the founding of Raja Harnath Roy College was five thousand rupees. Shortly after the establishment of this college, it became the main hub of higher education for the people of East Bengal, North Bengal, Bihar, Assam, and Purnia. This institute is recognized to be the third oldest college in Bangladesh after Dhaka College and Chittagong College. Rajshahi College was the first college in this area of undivided Bengal to grant a master’s degree. There are also three-year undergraduate degree programs in 22 subjects and four-year undergraduate honors degree courses in 20 subjects. The present institute is affiliated to the National University. Although the college has stopped enrolling students at the higher secondary level since 1998, it is now re-admitting students from the 2010-11 academic year.
